CBGa
As the cannabis plant matures, CBGA, which is the acidic form of CBG, is converted by plant enzymes into some ratio of the three major cannabinoid precursors: tetrahydrocannabinolic acid (THCA), cannabidiolic acid (CBDA), and cannabichromenic acid (CBCA).
It is thanks to CBGa that all other medicinal effects of cannabis are possible. CBG is formed through decarboxylation.
CBG is known to kill or slow bacterial growth, reduce inflammation, (particularly in its acidic CBGA form,) inhibit cell growth in tumor/cancer cells, and promote bone growth. Studies indicate that CBG may have therapeutic potential in treating neurological disorders (e.g., Huntington disease, Parkinson disease, and multiple sclerosis) Studies are in the early stages.
CBG is the only cannabinoid identified that helps stimulate the growth of new brain cells. In order to preserve the highest amounts of CBG, the recommended extraction must be done around six weeks into an eight-week flowering cycle.
“Cannabinoids Block Cellular Entry of SARS-CoV-2 and the Emerging Variants,” was published online on Monday Jan. 13, 2022 by the Journal of Natural Products. Recent studies at Oregon State research found two cannabis compounds, cannabigerolic acid (CBGa) and cannabidiolic acid( CBDa) could prevent SARS-CoV-2 from infecting human cells . By binding to the spike protein, the compounds can prevent the virus from entering cells and causing infection, potentially offering new avenues to prevent and treat the disease. The study was led by Richard van Breemen, a researcher with Oregon State’s Global Hemp Innovation Center in the College of Pharmacy and Linus Pauling Institute, in collaboration with scientists at the Oregon Health & Science University. Van Breeman said that the cannabinoids studied are common and readily available.
“These cannabinoid acids are abundant in hemp and in many hemp extracts,” van Breemen said, as quoted by local media. “They are not controlled substances like THC, the psychoactive ingredient in marijuana, and have a good safety profile in humans.”
And this is a new study...The synthesis of three new CBG derivatives (HUM-223, HUM-233 and HUM-234) show them to possess anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. In addition, unlike CBG, HUM-234 also prevents obesity in mice fed a high-fat diet (HFD). Read more from this medical abstract here
